This Jenny is wearing a kimono made from real vintage silk kimono. This vintage kimono has what is called shibori. In the center of each flower, a small bit of fabric was tied with a string and dyed... that is the shibori. This is a very time consuming and therefore expensive type of traditional Japanese dying. The lining of the Jenny kimono is red silk taken from the lining of a different kimono. The belt is made from a real kimono obi (belt). The Jenny is an older Calendar Girl doll.
Jenny is dressed in rather grown up colors, ready
to take a walk to view the autumn leaves. Her kimono reflects these autumn
colors in the ochre yellow of the belt, the red of Japanese maple leaves
in the lining and belt sash, a touch of the yellow of falling gingko leaves
in the kimono. This doll is going to Madison as part of a swap.
